One Sunday afternoon I was volunteering at Muttville without any plan of fostering let alone adopting a mutt, even though I’ve been tempted many times before! Once I saw Harper (formerly Kulani) I knew we had a special bond. After taking her for a walk and spending any free moment petting her, I called my roommate to tell her I fell in love and needed to bring her home to foster. A couple days later I adopted Harper (named after author Harper Lee).
Fast forward almost 4 years later and I couldn’t be happier to have the sweetest and grumpiest old lady in my life. She follows me everywhere I go and stands guard by the bathroom in case any danger ensues. She sleeps a lot more now, but once it’s time to eat she’s running down the hallway and doing her little dance moves! She also has the cutest “arwooos” you ever did hear.
She’s fiercely independent, sassy, and knows what she wants. She makes me laugh every day with her serious personality, but she’s so loving and loyal. I’m not sure what I did to deserve her, but I’m forever grateful to have her in my life. So much so I got a tattoo of her!
Thank you Muttville for all that you do to save sweet mutts like Harper. Follow her sleepy adventures on Instagram: @harper_girldog
