Lily (aka Trixie)

Wise words from mutt mom Nancy, and an inspiring story about her little Muttville lady, Lily:

Lily (aka Trixie)

If people knew how much they would get back from adopting a dog from Muttville, more people would do it. They are exceptional dogs with life experience, and full of appreciation for all the love that they receive.

I lost my little Bichon Frise Lola in March 2014 after she battled with lung cancer. We tried to save her with a surgery but that only spread the disease throughout her lungs and soon we knew that she would not make it. My husband, our other Bichon Frise Lucy and I all mourned the loss of this sweet spirit and did our share of crying. None of us could ever think of replacing her and we just were not ready to adopt another dog. What I realized while going through this mourning process is that although you can never ever replace a dog you lost; there are plenty of other dogs who need you. You can make such a difference in the life of a dog that has lost their owner or had to be surrendered.

On April 11th we went to Muttville to look at a few dogs. While we were in the cuddle room, one dog made an impression on us. She is a Pomeranian and her name at the time was Trixie. Trixie jumped into my lap and licked my hand, and then she went to my husband and introduced herself to him. Then she jumped down and put her nose to my dog Lucy’s nose and said ‘hi’. We were impressed with this sweet little dog with the BIG personality. We took Trixie home that day and have loved her from that time forward.

We decided to name Trixie, Lily, after a friend’s sister who passed away just two weeks before our trip to Muttville. I have always loved that name and it suited her well.

We have had Lily at home since April and she has proven to be such a blessing in our lives. She is happy, loving, and eager to please. She seems grateful for all the love she gets in her life now. She has changed our lives for the better. I feel so grateful to Muttville for finding homes for these amazing senior dogs. If you are thinking about adopting a dog, I suggest you don’t wait like I did. Why deny yourself the joy of having one of these amazing dogs?
