Papi…poor old Papi, chained day and night for over 10 years. I heard that the neighbors had tried many times to address his living condition yet he still lived through rainstorms and heatwaves chained up with little but a donated dog bed that had turned muddy and moldy. When he was finally free of those chains and came to live with me he could barely walk due to a degenerative myolopathy that was very painful.
He blossomed at our house. He would curl up in masses of specially warmed sleeping bags and sleep for hours – this was his bliss. His health was poor and even with good food and a warm and happy place, it did decline. But his last few weeks of life were joyful with every doggy desire met…chew bones, lots of friends, running in the green grass OFF LEASH, free of the chains that had been his prison for so long.
Papi, your friends only wish you had come to us sooner so we could have spent more time with you!
