Hello and thank you again for allowing us to adopt this sweet girl, whom we call Lady (fka Lady Earth).
She seems to be settled in really well and appears to be very happy. She enjoys exploring outdoors and smelling the traces of our local wildlife.
JC had mentioned she was afraid of larger dogs. When she first discovered our neighbor’s very large dog, she was terrified. Now she goes looking for him and seems disappointed when he isn’t waiting to greet her from the other side of the fence! She has even become accustomed to the neighbor’s large goat and wags her tail when she sees him. (At first, she’d take one look at him then dart toward our front door!) She has even become comfortable enough to get into minor mischief now and then. We are happy that she seems to have acclimated quickly.
Our veterinarian discovered Lady came with both bacterial & yeast ear infections, which are currently being treated.
Sadly, she feels that Lady’s cough is not kennel cough after all. Lady has heart disease including a very large heart murmur & possible congestive heart failure. Once Lady began taking heart medication twice daily, she began to perk up & “frolic” at times, almost like a puppy! This often results in a coughing fit, but, once recovered, she’ll either return to her frolic nature or take a nice nap (then frolic some more).
She is doing great with our stairs, even the longer staircase within the house. Again, that usually results in another coughing fit, but doesn’t seem to slow her down too much. At the doctor’s suggestion, I have only taken her on short walks – which she LOVES and walks quite well without pulling. The vet said I may need to carry her home if we go too far, so we mostly stay within the 2-acre property line.
I took Lady to meet the local grandchildren earlier this week. She loved them and they loved her! She seems to be a real “people” dog and loves to run and greet anyone that comes to our door. She has only barked once since we got her two weeks ago, at herself! (Her reflection had appeared on the glass kitchen door.)
We’ve grown to love her, and, I believe, the feeling is mutual.
Here are probably way more photos than you care to see… Enjoy!
Thank you again for the opportunity to share some love with this sweet Lady.
