Hello Muttville,
I’m afraid I’m writing with sad news today and gratitude. We said goodbye to Elska this morning, who came to us from Muttville as Margarita.
You gave us such an amazing gift, and we wish we could have had more time with her. But while she was with us, Elska was the queen of Divisadero, receiving treats at every corner and from every business, holding court at her favorite neighborhood bar, and harassing her many boyfriends at Alamo Square park. She was gentle with kids and puppies alike, and everybody loved her.
At home, she was sassy and demanding and wanted two things: chicken, and for her pack to be together. She drove with us to Colorado for Christmas and Oregon for Thanksgiving. She had to spend a few days in the kennel here and there, but we took every minute we could get with her.
It took almost a year for her to start really talking, to wrestle with us, and to let me trim her nails! She learned two commands: “sit,” which meant lie down, and “chill,” an important skill for hanging out at local eateries. But she didn’t need to learn anything else because she was so sweet-tempered and devoted. I wish we could have known more of her story, and the journey that took her to us, but we’re so grateful for the love we got to give and receive from her.
Thanks again for everything that you do-dogs are amazing, and you guys are amazing for the care you give them.

Cheers to Margarita!
This big bouncy girl has the most wonderful attitude and is such a happy dog! Margarita is gentle at heart, but still loves to play. She is kind, happy and so pretty.
Margarita has shown to be polite around smaller dogs, and gets excited & loves to play with big dogs. While she can get very animated and playful when out with dogs, she is a true couch potato at heart and isn’t up for long hikes. She’s ready for an extremely comfy couch to enjoy her retirement.
She loves people and will happily greet you with a wagging tail and a smile. Margarita loves her humans so much that she doesn’t really want to share them in her home with other dogs – so along with that comfy couch, she wants to be the queen of her castle.
Margarita is an all around great girl and we are so ready to help her find her new home. Like most of our older dogs she is on a few meds and has recently started one to help with a bit of leaking due to incontinence. Don’t tell her though – Margarita is ready to party!
