I adopted Beau about 11 months ago. It was a bit different than your normal adoption because Beau lived with a relative of his ‘mom’ who could not care for him. No foster parent was involved. He was delivered to us mid-day and was fearful. I could not pick him up or touch anywhere except the top of his head and his shoulders. He seemed traumatized. I asked the relative and she said he was very pampered by his mom but was not socialized.
After several days we got into a routine and he has slowly adjusted to his new life. After getting a bit more comfortable he decided now that he was here, we no longer needed my husband to be around since Beau would be my new protector. Of course this did not go over really well with my husband. The barking and growling continue each time my husband walks into the room or gets up from bed but they have developed a deep friendship otherwise. My husband took over the feedings and walking which gives them space to be away from me.
Beau is such an odd little dog but we are very happy to have him in our family!!
