Hi Muttville!
I am so proud to be a Muttville mom! My passion for animals goes back as far as I can remember. But several years ago, I put my love into action and opened up a pet care business in Cranbrook, British Columbia Canada (overnight and daycare/grooming). Under the umbrella of my business, I developed relationships with many rescues, Muttville being one of them. Because my heart is with the senior dogs, on two separate occasions, I took holidays and made the long trip to San Francisco to volunteer and put my skills to work helping with those lovely old souls staying in the loft. The staff was great, the volunteers second to none and the mission and work of Sherri Franklin truly amazing. It was an absolute privilege being able to spend time with the gang at Muttville.
It goes without saying, that I fell in love with many of the precious dogs up for adoption and I would have loved to take many of them back up to Canada with me. But two definitely caught my eye. Sweet Sherie Ann, looked up with those big eyes. She was not the type to look for attention, so when visitors came to visit the dogs in the loft, she would frequently be overlooked but her just standing there in the middle of the room, just looking around melted my heart. She came home with me in 2014. Unfortunately, sweet Sherie Ann passed away in 2019.
Then there was Mozart, he so reminded me of a dog that I rescued and rehomed from Idaho. Marley was that dogs name and I really missed her, so I took the opportunity to find my own ‘Marley’, and when I saw Mozart, he was it! He came home with me in 2017. He is doing great, toothless and as ‘old a dirt’ I always say! Love that boy!
I sold my business in 2018 and after taking some time off to refresh I am ready to get back into rescue and dog care. I hope to follow in the Muttville footsteps and start a senior dog rescue and sanctuary in British Columbia. Hopefully I too can help those senior dogs that are all too often forgotten.
Thanks to Muttville, who gave me the opportunity to adopt two awesome furbabies and I hope to continue our relationship.
Sincerely, Karla Shalley
