Thomas

Thomas

I just wanted to let you know that sadly Thomas (formerly known as Jafar) passed away in the early hours of Weds Oct 23, almost 5 years since I first met him. His heart failed. We think he was probably about 15 years old. This was our story ….

On Oct 29 2014 at Muttville I met and fell in love with a scruffy little snaggle toothed guy known then as Jafar (or Hedgehog or Count Candy Corn), but to me he was Thomas. Three days later I took him home as my foster pup and on Feb 14 2015 I officially adopted him. In September 2018 Thomas, my son Jasper, and I, flew to the UK (via Paris so he could travel in the cabin with me and not in the hold) and he spent his last year of life enjoying walks in the Forest of Dean.

He loved napping, snuggles, sunshine, sniffy walks, and sticking his head out the car window. He disliked smoke, rain, coughing, garbage trucks, the vet, any kind of delivery person, and most humans. He had a very select list of humans (other than me) that he could tolerate (as long as they respected his boundaries) and everyone else risked a bite on the ankle if they got too close!

He was my best friend, my napping partner, my coworker, my co pilot, my confidant, and I loved him with all my heart.

In the early hours of Oct 23 2019 I said goodbye and let Thomas fall into his final sleep. I feel extremely honored to have been Thomas’s chosen human for five years. I will never forget him and there will be an empty space in my heart that is forever his.

Here are some photos of our wonderful 5 years together.
