Poppy

Dear Muttville,

This note is long overdue, but I am finally able to put words to paper to express our profound gratitude to you for connecting us with our beloved dog, Poppy (fka Sarah 2). We adopted Poppy from Muttville in August of 2011 and our family was able to enjoy 7 wonderful, heart-warming years with her. In the last year of her life, Poppy was diagnosed with a fast-growing cancer and wasn’t healthy enough to make it into the new year, succumbing on January 31, 2018. Her kind spirit and beautiful presence is deeply missed in our home.

Our children were toddlers when we adopted Poppy, though she was initially shy and scared of everything, she was always patient and sweet with them. They named her Poppy Seed Bagel because of the black spots on her white face. We would walk her to Crissy Field daily, and at first, she was afraid of the other dogs and even of the waves. This quickly became difficult to believe as within months this became the favorite part of her day – excitedly dipping in the bay and cavorting with any playful dog. She began to welcome us home with loving howls (truly the best sound in the world) and bury anything she could find in our backyard. She also became a Velcro dog in the truest sense, never wanting to leaving our sides, always ready for any family adventure.

Poppy filled our lives with infinite amounts joy and compassion. We are so grateful for the time we had with her and will do our best to honor her life by supporting other dogs in need. To Muttville, we thank you for enriching our lives so fully and for continuing your mission to honor the lives of senior dogs in need.

Warmly,

Kelly, Sig, Boden and Elsa Anderson
