Hank 3116

Amy shared with us her story of finding her senior love, Hank. Although it was not easy, Amy stayed committed to helping little Hank become the good dog he is today!

Last December we had to put down our dog Mookie at the age of 13. We had Mookie since she was 4 months. We were all heartbroken. One night my husband and I were talking about Mookie and what made us very happy was knowing that we gave her a good life, right up until her last breath. It was then that I decided I wanted to give a good second half of life to a dog who needed a family.

That night I did a Google search on Senior Dog Adoptions and found Muttville. I immediately fell in love with a little Yorkie mix named Hank. A couple of days later I went to meet Hank and he came home with me.

It wasn’t a smooth transition to say the least. Hank would bite you if you approached him, he had to be the one to approach you. The morning after we got Hank, I bent down to give him a kiss and he bit my nose. I have three young boys and I was concerned he might bite them too so I made them very aware that they could not approach him.

Hank had a few potty training issues as well but the worst part was that he had severe separation anxiety, he even took medication for it. If I even went behind a closed door he would start crying.

It has taken some time and love but I am happy to report that Hank has found his place within our family and his bad behaviors have disappeared. No more potty accidents, no more biting and I have been able to get him off the meds for the separation anxiety. He is still definitely really attached to me and follows me everywhere and still cries a little when I leave but he has also bonded with my son, Jake, and finds comfort with him when I am gone.

We have another dog, Maggie who is 13 and whom we have had since birth. She and Hank get along fine. Hank even gets on well with our bunny rabbit, Buttercup. I am so happy we have been able to give Hank a loving home.
