Ultra is exceptionally loving. She discovered pets and now can’t get enough any time they are available, though she can also entertain herself and doesn’t require constant attention. Ultra has been taking herself out to the yard through the dog door, but this clever girl would probably learn another routine easily. Don’t let her less-than-entirely-functional leg fool you: she gets around fantastically and can even go up and down stairs!
Ultra lives pleasantly with three other elder mutts. She will sometimes choose to lounge on the same bed with them, but generally doesn’t engage with them too much. Her favorite interactions are cuddles with people! Initially, Ultra was rattled by a loud neighborhood dog and a few other outside noises and would respond with barking. With just a bit of positive reinforcement, though, she’s already staying calm nearly every time she hears something. She’s learned that staying calm gets her praise and rewards, and it’s a joy to see her be excited to stay quiet and relaxed. Ultra can be a little reactive on leash, but it’s largely exuberance and she’s usually willing to be distracted by treats and/or attention. Ultra has been known to bark at and run up to new people entering the home…but we’ve found that she’s announcing that she would like pets and is quick to make friends with new people.
