Attention everyone who has always wanted a Great Pyrenees but has been holding out for the Greatest Pyrenees: The waiting is over! Horton and Rolf have landed! Bonded giants with enough furry charisma between them to take over small nation states, they have all of Muttville in a swoony trance. Curious, sweet, snoogly, and handsome, they tag team their way from cuddle to cuddle, instilling security and goodness across the land. Little dogs, whom they like very much, think they’re weird, but you’re going to LOVE them.

Here’s some notes from their foster:

How big is your couch? Double it! These country boys are the sweetest cuddle bugs and after 10 years taking care of the farm they’ve officially entered their nap era!

Horton & Rolf are best friends and brothers all rolled into one. They have a lot in common, but also their own distinct personalities. These sweet, slow moving, gentle treat-taking, snuggly guys are truly the gentlest of giants!!

Exercise:

- Both LOVE being outside! Walks are the highlights of the day – the walks aren’t long but they’re full of sniffs. Horton moves a bit slower, and lingers on the smells, Rolf takes the lead and wants to meet everyone. They’ve been getting used to the leash walks, and aren’t pullers.

- Having a yard has been great with them – we’ve been able to leave the door to the yard open for them to come in and out, sunbathe, etc

- They’ve only pottied outside. No inside accidents, or even attempts.

Food:

- Good appetites! Horton is more enthusiastic (eats in gulps) so I feed them separately to make sure Rolf (eats with licks) doesn’t give up his food for his brother. Treats welcome!

Affection:

- They both LOVE pets. If you’re sitting on the couch Rolf will come up and nudge your hands with his head until you start petting him. If you stop? Head nudges or paw nudges until you start again. He also adorably will bury his head in your armpit while you pet him more :) Horton won’t seek out the pets as much but is very happy when you come to him (belly rubs especially)

Animal Friends:

- They’ve met dogs large and small at Muttville, on the sidewalk, in our house, and are perfect gentlemen. Rolf, especially, wants to sniff hello to everyone (human & canine). They’re quickly becoming local park celebrities.

Additional observations:

- Naps are a big part of the day! Especially on a cozy dog bed, or snuggled together on a couch. I love seeing them embrace the soft surfaces life!

- They will howl in unison with fire trucks that pass by, and have on occasion barked in solidarity with a neighbors dog, but they don’t bark for attention.

- They can be left alone for a few hours no problem, but prefer if they can roam a bit verses being confined to one room. I think this is so they don’t think you’re having fun somewhere else in the house without them!

They’re just the easiest going guys! A good yard set-up would be great since they love to be outdoors so much. They really do love each other! Rolf seems more sad when he is solo, and Horton gets confidence from Rolf when doing things like stairs (they’re both going up a full flight now! down is a work in progress) or entering a new building. I’ve caught them looking to each other a few times, as if they’re saying “what do you think?” before making decisions. It’s pretty stinkin’ cute! And lastly, yes – their lucious Great Pyrenees locks will grow back!
