Jane

Thirteen years ago, our neighbors—a kind couple who volunteered at a #muttville nonprofit helping senior dogs get adopted—introduced me to a little white dog they were fostering. She looked a bit like a Jack Russell mix, and there was something about her that instantly touched my heart.

Jane

At the time, there was a movie called The Artist. It won Best Picture at the Oscars. One of the main characters was a Jack Russell terrier, and I remember falling in love with that dog while watching the film. Little did I know, not long after, I would meet Jane, and it was love at first sight. That’s how I came to adopt her. Back then, I was told she was around 7 years old.

Over the years, Jane has been a quiet and well-behaved dog. She’s always loved to sniff around and go on long walks—never a runner, just a calm explorer. There was one unfortunate moment at the park when someone tossed her a treat in the air. Jane leapt so high to catch it, but the landing hurt her back. Since that day, she’s slowed down more and more.

But even as time passes, I still treasure her company deeply. Her presence means everything to me.

Now, 13 years later, Jane is likely 20. She’s definitely aging—dealing with liver, kidney, pancreatitis, and gall bladder issues. Some days are tough, but there are still good ones. She can still eat and walk, though everything is a little slower now. I believe she still enjoys being here. She loves her slow walks and sniffing around the park, and I simply love having her beside me—just sitting or sleeping quietly near me.

As the song says, “How wonderful life is while you’re in the world.”

I’m grateful every single day that we’re still together. Jane is my superdog. Her superpower is bringing me peace without doing much at all. Just being near me is enough. And that alone makes me so #happy. #krypto #love #sanfrancisco #dog #adoptdontshop #superman #puppy
