B.b. (short for blind and beautiful) got adopted into her forever home on the same day that 100,000 tulips were being given away on Union Square; March 2nd, 2019. A few miles away she was meeting her soon to be cousin, Jack. If she passed the test of being non-aggressive with him she was bound for a whole new home (her fifth in four months).
She started out in the central valley, at a kill shelter, where her future was not bright given that she had a host of ailments and no eyes. In pain from a bad back, knees and teeth and suffering from hematuria and obesity, her prospects were bleak especially since she could be snappy.
Volunteers from Muttville transported her to San Francisco where she underwent medical evaluations, teeth surgery, had medications properly dosed and was put on a diet and exercise regimen. She enjoyed acupuncture and was placed in the first of two foster homes. Trusting dog that she is, she licked everyone and was appreciative for every kindness and even proceeded to shed a few pounds.
Then she met Jack, her cousin-to-be. She was somewhat indifferent but delightful. She wasn’t too scared and showed everyone in the room that she had a brave heart as she maneuvered around the furniture effortlessly. Soon, there were congratulations and photos of the adoptive family and many thanks to the last foster family for having taken such precious care of her during her transition.
Within 24 hours her new mother found that she would jump up on footstool and onto the couch unaided and without being shown. She eagerly explored her new surroundings and investigated where her cousins slept. Within the first month she was bounding through unmowed fields with just her tail moving like a sail through the grasses to show where she was.
Her name was changed to Tula, in part to commemorate the tulips of her adoption day. Ever the adaptable little girl she responds just fine to her new name. She’s captured the hearts of the adults in the house and she has also won over her cousins who even allow her to sleep in the family bed.
