Oski

When we met him at Muttville back in 2010, his name was Oscar Wilde (#411), and we have always called him Oski.

Oski

When we came to Muttville, we did not think we were ready to give a dog a forever home, as we were still grieving for two wonderful dogs we had lost to old age the preceding year. But when Sherri introduced us to the Muttville mutts, Oski jumped into my lap and wouldn’t leave – or let any other dog too close. We knew he had chosen us to be his pack. We took him home the day the Oscars are given at the Academy Awards, so we celebrate that day each year as Oskiday.

We have celebrated seven Oskidays since then, and are hoping for an eighth in the spring. There has not been a single day in all these years that we have not felt blessed by his presence in our lives. When we first got him he was young by Muttville standards – eight years old – and full of energy. He would leap around our bedroom pouncing on imaginary rats, then throw himself on his back with all four legs waving joyfully in the air – we called that the Oskidance. We took him everywhere with us, we still do, he is a great little traveler who wins friends and admirers wherever he goes.

Now Oski has really grown old – his next Oskiday we will call his 16th birthday – and now he pretty much just snuggles and rests. No more imaginary rats, and only the briefest of walks…but that’s OK, we love to just snuggle him too.

Thank you Muttville for all that you do for the senior mutts, and of course we can’t thank you enough for bringing the joy of being Oski’s people into our lives, it has been a wonderful ride with him alongside us.

With gratitude,
Rochelle
