In July 2015, at the age of 17, Mickey was surrendered to the Martinez shelter, and luckily became a Muttville dog. He only spent 10 days with his Muttville foster mom before meeting Gary who immediately knew that he and Mickey were meant to be together. Newly retired and a first time pet guardian, Gary quickly learned the joys of having the unwavering companionship of a four legged friend. Mickey may have been a little hard of hearing, but he loved to walk. Together, Mickey and Gary explored streets of Gary’s neighborhood making many new friends along the way. Gary’s devotion to Mickey was unwavering. He carried Mickey up and down his long staircase multiple times a day as Mickey’s arthritis limited his ability safely go up and down alone. Mickey spent his last days in bed in Gary’s arms. He passed away peacefully in his usual quiet dignified manner. Mickey, you were so loved and will be so missed!! Your sweet soul will not soon be forgotten. Sweet boy, thank you for sharing your joy and love of life.
