Aslan

Who saved whom? Debbie tells us her heartfelt story about the day Aslan saved her and her family, and helped “their hearts to smile again”.

Aslan

Dear Muttville,

First I’d like to say Thank You for what you’re doing. Not only are you saving seniors you’re also saving some hurting hearts. After our loyal family companion Zack crossed over that bridge I swore that was it. No More! I can’t take any more losses. First mom, then my husband in a racing accident. Zack was my lifesaver, my pal, my partner……when he couldn’t make it up the stairs any more I took my mattress downstairs so that he could still sleep next to me. I felt lost without him. No one greeted me at the door any more. It still hurts 3 years later but one day as I was browsing on Facebook this face appeared and something happened. The ad said he liked to “spoon”. Of course there was no way another dog did what Zack did. I did nothing at first but couldn’t stop thinking about this boy with 2 different colored eyes. I kept his picture but told myself I did not want to risk my heart again. I’ll just fill out this adoption app. I was hoping he’d be gone and that would be my answer right? Sure enough there was another interest and she took him home only to return him the next day. I got the message from Muttville that he was available again and I didn’t think twice. It was meant to be!! My daughter, 2 of my grand daughters & myself drove 2 hours (someone waited late just for us) to meet ASLAN. It was love at first sight. This big 80 lb boy was so gentle. He seemed sad and scared. I wish he could tell me his ‘before’ story. It was decided that night that we were going to make the rest of his life the best of his life♡
We kept the name Aslan figuring he was probably already wondering why people were calling him that. He’s great with the kids. He is becoming quite the bed hog these days too. It’s so cute when this big guy gets excited and tries to act like a puppy jumping & spinning around. He likes to go get the mail with us and has learned how to open the cabinets. If I’m out late he’ll lay next to my grand daughters bed as if he’s on watch. There’s no such thing as a quick pat on the head for him. He will push our hands or nuzzle our legs to let us know that we aren’t done touching him yet. He sleeps with his tongue hanging out of his mourh and leaves wet spots. I don’t know what his before story was but Aslan’s now story is that he’s a member of our family. He’s happy. He’s safe. He’s found his forever home. I will forever be grateful to Muttville for helping our hearts to smile again.

Sincerely,
Debbie
