When Aaron began his first volunteer day at Muttville, his life changed in more ways than one! Read Aaron’s own words about his Muttville mutt, Koda Bear:
I first volunteered at Muttville in October 2014. On that day, I noticed a scrawny, shorn, unhappy-looking little dog moping in the corner. His name was Koda Bear and he had arrived the day before. He had been a stray in L.A. for some time and was in terrible shape. As soon as we made eye contact he perked up and after sitting in my lap for a few minutes, I had trouble convincing him that it was time for me to get back to work!
After thinking over a potential foster situation for a few weeks, I finally decided to just adopt him. That was in December. Fast forward a few months and Koda has settled in nicely to his new home with me and my two other dogs, Nomi and Cristal. He’s put on some much-needed weight, his fur has grown back and his discomfort due to his arthritis and other issues has mostly subsided.
He loves going for walks with his new siblings, although he’s only good for about 1/2 block before he needs to go into his Outward Hound carrier (which he loves even more!) and he has a great time investigating all the smelly little treats on Ocean Beach. Most importantly, he has changed my life – I really believe that HE chose ME – and I never thought caring for a special needs dog could be so transforming.
I cherish every moment this little guy is part of my world! Thanks Muttville!
