When Izzie came to Muttville the shelter where she was rescued from said that she likely needed a loving place for her final days. Izzie proved them wrong! She lived a wonderful life with Stephanie, full of adventure. We are so proud to share her story:
Our Izzie (formerly Miss Trudy) made her way south to the California desert with the help of Muttville volunteer Whitney, who drove her down from her Muttville foster home in San Francisco in the spring of 2012. We met in the park in Bakersfield, and the black and white diva climbed into the back of the station wagon with her brother Porter, and into our hearts. She soon let Porter and the cats know that the new kid in town would now be the boss in the family.
In Joshua Tree she figured out that there were wonderful places to walk and many new smells. Izzie was always up for a walk or even a run, if the weather was nice. Some amazing instinct steered her clear of any cactus thorns on her daily walks. Her travels took her on numerous camping and road trips through several states. When camping, she staked out her favorite spot under the bed in the teardrop trailer, which came to be known as Izzie’s den. When kayaking, her favorite spot was leaning her head on the edge of the boat and watching the world go by.
“Intrepid” best sums up Izzie’s approach to life. Even when she began to have a recurrence of earlier health problems, she exhibited the energy and spunk of dogs half her age. When daily walks became a bit too much for her, Mom procured the “Izziemobile”, which allowed her to continue the walks she so much enjoyed and to rule the world from her perch in the DoggyRide. To the end, she enjoyed rides in the car and snuggling next to her brother Porter.
We lost Izzie in December 2014. While we miss her terribly, we are so grateful for the years we had with our Izzie girl. We can learn a lot from her attitude. Spunky seniors, unite!
