Tilly (aka 891)

This is Tilly’s third year hiking the Lakes Basin trails in the Sierra Buttes. Three years ago we met her at a Muttville adoption event and she’s been a treasured member of our family since. Skipper and Chica are her brother and sister, and she has bunches of cats, chickens, geese and a pigeon to play with. Some of the cats even pretend to let her chase them even though they are all bigger than she. When I first walked her I took her without the other dogs to see how far she could go. After all, she was a senior dog. When all 8 pounds of her pulled me down the driveway and all of our usual mile, I knew the other dogs would have to keep up with her!

In the mountains, Tilly can hike any trail. She can scramble over boulders, ford streams, cross logs and swim, if necessary (a chiwiener is not really a water dog.) Her best venue is the snow. Imagine a foot or two of snow, then a tire track about six inches deep. This is Tilly’s trail. You can hardly see her as she trots along but it’s plain she’s quite pleased with herself for figuring it out.
We make frequent trips to the Buttes and she’s always eager to go- love those rest stop smells! People up there say that even the most senior dogs feel a new sense of life when they get to the mountains but we know the best thing for many senior mutts is to be rescued by Muttville. Tilly is proof that even the small and quiet seniors have hidden depths that spring to life when given a second chance.

Thank you, Muttville!
