At Muttville, we get a lot of chihuahuas, so we can understand that they might be hard to tell apart, but not this sweet senior girl: Yuma! Yuma is a chihuahua with a coat as sandy as her name suggests, and huge ears that are always perked to hear the latest news. She had some eye issues, but you know what they say – “no eyes, no problem.” Or maybe it’s just Yuma who says that, but this intrepid little sweetheart will not let her lack of vision slow her down! She believes that slow and steady wins the race, so she can be cautious when in new environments, but she adapts quickly and is easily able to navigate familiar environments. She’ll be quick to assure you that her stellar hearing and sense of smell more that make up for her lack of sight. Yuma is a sweet girl who loves meeting new humans – she will cover you with doggy kisses as she cuddles in for a long snuggle. Yuma is so sweet and mellow. You can’t help but love her. Yuma does great with my two kids and my dog. She gets around ok but does need help on stairs or any kind of step. So far, she seems to enjoy spending time out in the sun, snuggling and belly rubs. She seems a little tentative on the leash. I’m working on getting her to follow my voice and pat the ground with my hand. She has gotten a lot more comfortable in my house in the past two days and I’m sure that with time her confidence would continue to grow. She has started to wag her tail at us when she hears us call her.
