Ursula is a lanky lady who LOVES a sunbeam nap. She is super friendly, and seems to get along with everyone. Even though she kinda looks like an aardvark, we are pretty sure she’s a senior mutt. Either way, she’s worth adopting.
Here are some notes from her foster:
Ursula is a wonderful dog. She likes to be warm and comfortable and leans her head into pets. I take her to dog parks, and multiple dog owners always comment on how friendly, independent, and energetic she is. It’s hard to believe that she’s 14 the way she walks around the park. Ursula greets and sometimes follows different people. Whenever people say, “She likes me!”, I don’t have the heart to tell them that she’s friendly and gentle with everyone. Anyone can pet her. Anyone can hold her. But Ursula’s a smart girl, who knows who her pack is, and responds to her name and comes when called. Every so often, she comes back to me to check in and get some loving if it’s being offered. Ursula definitely knows who she came with and who she’s leaving with. She’s loving but not needy.
Ursula has been an ideal house guest. She is house broken. She pees in one, long squat when taken out. She poops daily when taken out. She eats when fed and stops when full. And she’s good at drinking water. Except for a low warning growl whenever one of my dogs try to encroach upon her food, I haven’t heard a sound from her. Ursula is extremely quiet, which works for me because I live in an apartment. Maybe in time she’ll develop more confidence, but so far, she hasn’t been able to use stairs, though she has tried. As she is able to go up a few steps, I don’t think it’s a matter of being physically incapable.
Ursula acclimated to my routine quickly. We get up, potty, and eat breakfast. I start working, and everyone takes a nap until it’s time to go out for a potty break. Then, more napping and potty breaks. After work, we go to the dog park, then dinner and bed. On weekends, we take longer walks at places like Fort Funston, Point Isabel, or Stulsaft Park. Ursula gets along with my dogs. She gets along with my cats. She rides just fine in her car seat – no car sickness or nervousness. She gets in the elevator just fine and even knows to mind the gap.
I think Ursula is pretty adaptable and would be fine as an only dog, with a parent as her constant friend. Although she’s social, I think she’s independent enough to not need companionship 24/7, so long as she gets her daily dose of affection. Whoever adopts her will be getting a loving and gentle girl.
