Tum Tum is a classic ISFJ personality type, which means he is initially cautious about who is trusted to give him belly rubs. According to Myers-Briggs, if you offer a little bit of cream cheese or a piece of chicken to an ISFJ, they will be loyal forever. This seems to be true with Tum Tum, who eagerly offers up his tum tum to anyone with a little snack or a kind heart.
Here are some notes from his foster
TumTum is the most polite gentleman! He was shy and unsure at first but warmed up in a day or two. He’s cautious when meeting new people and backs up and runs if you don’t give him his space, but is so sweet once he makes friends! When he feels confident with you he’ll even play fetch with a tennis ball!
He found a favorite spot on the couch where he can see the whole house and he sleeps there all day. He is becoming attached to me and likes to follow me around. He does not bark and he doesn’t even go to other parts of the house without you. He spent the rest of the day cuddling and tummy rubbing on the couch with me watching tv!
Originally he seemed picky with his food but I think he was just adjusting to his new space. He’s been eating regularly and quickly the last 2 days with some Cesar chicken and fresh rice. His potty habit has been great! He only pees 2-3 times a day and has not had any accidents. We have stairs at home and he’s fine with them.
He naps a lot during the day if we’re home. If we are out, he has stopped whining and would wait/nap patiently by the front door. He does pretty well in cars and usually sleeps through the ride. He’s very polite and does not wake me up in the morning! He’s ok with only dry food now. He prefers soft chew snacks over doggie biscuits. Last warm weekend we also found out he can swim! He also loved sunbathing on the hot concrete and feeling the breeze on his nose. He sure is enjoying his vacation time here!
He will do well with any family who is willing to give him time (a few days) and space (a few feet) to get to know you!
Here’s what our shelter team has to say about him
It has been amazing to witness Tumtum’s transformation from the fearful, shy guy he was when he arrived at Muttville to fun, snuggly cuddlemuffin!!
He hangs out in the kitchen with me while I prep the medicine and food for the dogs for the day. Man, does he love belly rubs! He’s very squishy and cuddly, and while he lost a bunch of his trademark grill, he’s still quite handsome.
I’ve tested him with 4 small dogs and he does fantastic with them. Mostly girl dogs, but I introduced Viva Las Vegas and he did well with him, too. My foster, Gloria Goodpenny, has spent the day chilling with him and he seems cool with it. He loves people but can be shy at first. He has to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he’s your BFF. He’d love nothing more than his own family and a couch to snuggle on. For the potato that he is, he sure is picky about food (so far Wellness pouches are his favorite), and often prefers you hand-feed him like the royalty he is.
Tumtum is a great guy. Just needs a little time and confidence to blossom.
