Making this post is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but after a great deal of thought, I’ve made the difficult decision to find a new home for my beloved dog, Trouser. My only goal is to find someone who can give him the life he deserves.
He is a 7-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix weighing about 22 pounds. He’s incredibly loyal, affectionate, and forms a deep bond with his person. He loves being close to the people he trusts, enjoys walks, games, chasing his ball at the beach, cozy naps, and spending time with his favorite humans.
He is house-trained and has been well cared for for the last 5 1/2 years of his life. I will provide his veterinary records, along with his bed, toys, leash, treats, food, and anything else that helps make his transition easier. I am also offering to help with dog sitting when I’m available, as I would love to help out and get to see the little guy every once in a while!
Like many dogs, he has some little quirks. He can sometimes take a little while to get used to new people entering his space. Because of this, he would do best with someone who understands dog behavior and is willing to continue helping him feel safe and successful. A calm and somewhat predictable home would most likely be his ideal environment.
He is very easily distracted by treats, chews, and games. He is one of the most food-motivated dogs I have ever met, making teaching him new tricks and training quite easy! He has successfully learned a handful of commands as well as some leash training and recall. He does well off leash at parks and the beach, and never runs away or tries to leave his person. He also does great around other dogs and people when out in public.
Trouser had a dental cleaning as well as a few teeth extracted a few months ago, and after his surgery he developed a blood platelet disorder (thrombocytopenia) that was likely a reaction to the surgery and/or one of the drugs he was given during his operation. We got him on medication and he has fully recovered, and is in great health again! We are currently tapering off his medication and he will be medication-free within the coming weeks :)
This decision comes from a lot of love for this dog, not a lack of it. I want him to have the best possible future, even though letting him go is heartbreaking. I have simply been overwhelmed with balancing caring for him with my extremely busy work schedule. It breaks my heart when I feel like I can’t give him enough of my time. I have therefore determined, after a ton of time and thought, that this is what needs to happen.
I’m looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, and committed to giving him the stable, loving home he deserves. I’d like to meet prospective adopters, ask a few questions, and make sure it’s the right match for everyone—especially for him.
If you think you might be a good fit or know someone who would be, please reach out. I’d be grateful if you could also share this post with others.
This is a courtesy post. Trouser is not a Muttville dog. If you are interested in adopting Trouser and want to learn more about him, please contact: Nick M 949.306.2728 nickkmoss@gmail.com.
