When you first see little black and tan sweetheart Stitch, your only thought will be, “Wow! How did such a pretty pup end up as a stray?” We’ve been scratching our heads over the same thing – this long haired chihuahua with floppy ears and a doggy grin that could land her on the cover of magazines is quite the stunner! She’s also very sweet although a bit shy at first, so gentle introductions work best on our Stitch. After she warms up, though, she’ll entangle you in a cuddle puddle for all the snuggles you could want! Of course, if you happen to have some chicken to sweeten the deal, things might go a bit faster. Is your life missing a Stitch? Then come get her!
Here’s some notes from her foster:
Stitch is one of the sweetest little dogs I’ve ever met. She truly hasn’t met a stranger she didn’t like. On our walks, she wants to greet everyone she sees and often gives an adorable play bow to people passing by. Most people are on their way to work and can’t stop, and she watches them hopefully as they continue on. Thankfully, her cuteness causes quite a stir, and many people stop to say hello when they have the time. She happily stands up with her front paws on their legs and soaks up all the affection she can get.
She is equally friendly with children, toddlers, and adults. Stitch has also shown great interest in other dogs, both large and small. She has also remained calm around a skateboarder passing very close by. I do suspect that she may have some hearing loss, which could contribute to her lack of reaction to certain noises. She can hear high-pitched sounds and they seem to put her on alert.
Stitch is incredibly loving, gentle, and affectionate. She enjoys being close to her people and forms attachments quickly. She loves belly rubs and has the funniest little expression when she’s enjoying a massage—she opens her mouth into a perfect little ""O"" and holds it there while she relaxes.
She is very trusting and tolerant. During her belly rubs, I can gently touch around her mouth without any concern. She has never shown any aggression toward me and is one of the gentlest dogs I’ve fostered.
She enjoys soft plush toys, especially toys that can hold treats, such as snuffle balls. She also likes to nibble on blankets and occasionally the edges of pillows, but she does not appear destructive. Usually, offering a soft toy redirects her easily.
Stitch enjoys having a cozy retreat and will often relax inside a soft dog house when she wants quiet time. She also loves sitting on the back of the couch and watching the world outside the window. She is very quiet overall and we have heard very little barking.
At night, Stitch prefers to sleep close to her people. We placed a dog bed on our bed so she would have her own space, and she happily moves back and forth between the dog bed and sleeping directly beside us. Her favorite spot seems to be tucked under an arm or nestled between people.
Stitch can navigate the small pet stairs we have leading to the couch and bed. She can also jump onto the couch on her own. She is capable of using regular stairs, but I would not recommend long flights of stairs. During one staircase climb, she stopped midway and asked to be picked up. She seems happiest with shorter climbs and gentle assistance when needed.
Stitch is an exceptionally loving, gentle, and affectionate little dog. She wants nothing more than to be close to her people, soak up attention, and be part of the family. She is social with people, interested in other dogs, enjoys cozy naps, soft toys, and belly rubs, and has a remarkably sweet nature.
I think the strongest takeaway is that she’s not just ""friendly""—she’s actively seeking connection. The image of her play-bowing to busy commuters and then watching them walk away is both adorable and a little heartbreaking. That’s the detail that really made her personality come alive for me.
