When you wish upon a Starfish, all your dreams come true. Literally! Just make your wish, rub her belly, and the universe will deliver. Especially if your wish is to have the cutest, softest, sweetest companion living right in your very own house – but also all other wishes. After all, if your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme. You can’t argue with logic like that.
Here’s some notes from her foster:
Starfish is so cute – she looks like a cocker spaniel puppy with a senior dog’s wise eyes! Everyone wants to pet her right away, but she needs a slower approach. She’s a sensitive girl, needing time to observe everything around her as she adjusts to new people and places. After quietly following me around for her first few days with me, she became more comfortable and started taking long naps. The more comfortable she became, the more she’d sprawl out!
Even though she follows me around at times, she’s pretty independent. At first, she wasn’t comfortable sitting next to me on the couch and would prefer being alone in a dog bed. After a few days, she seemed to like sleeping next to me when I sat on the couch but sleeps in a dog bed when I’m moving about. She also sleeps through the nights in a dog bed. She’s a quiet girl, but sometimes surprises me with a bark that is much bigger than her body! Her barks happen outside when she sees a dog, but she’s easily redirected with a treat. She coexists harmoniously with our resident dog and doesn’t react when she hears our neighbor’s dog on the other side of the fence, so I think she just wants to let the dogs on the street know that she’s no pushover. She’s also completely ignores our cat.
Starfish gets positively spunky at mealtimes. I usually take her for a little sniffari before dinner, and once we head back, she starts scampering all the way back to her food bowl. If we’re not outside before a mealtime, she scampers around the room a bit with a few happy jumps. She eats very well and it’s easy to tuck her meds into her food. She doesn’t have separation anxiety, but is starting to get happy to see me when I return home. She can easily run up the full flight of stairs into our house, but prefers not to go down them on her own. She’ll go down stairs that only have a few steps, though, and it’s easy to carry her down full flights because she’s so light. She’s house trained, but between our full flight of stairs and her subtle cues, it took a little time to figure out her potty needs. We’ve now figured those out and haven’t had any accidents since then.
I think Starfish would do best in a quiet home with gentle and patient guardians who can let her bloom in her own time. She’s had a few changes in her life and needs to make sure she can really trust the new people in her life and feel completely safe and content. It’s so gratifying to see her get there and become your sweet companion for life.
