What’s black and white and found at Muttville? We’d like everyone to stand up and applaud our latest mutt, Stand Up! While he may have gotten his name by keeping folks entertained with his adorably zany antics, we’ve rarely seen someone more deserving of a standing ovation. This sweet older gentleman is a giant by Muttville standards-weighing in at 70 pounds, this gorgeous Border Collie is perfect for someone who is looking for a larger senior. Some might say that big dogs have bigger hearts (although we doubt they’d say it to a chihuahua’s face!), and we know that Stand Up has a LOT of love to give. If you’d like to hear his routine, come check him out today!

Here’s some notes from his foster!

The breed description for Border Collies never includes the adjectives “chill,” “calm,” and “relaxed,” but the description of Stand Up sure does! This mellow gentleman is the perfect mix of couch potato companion and fun exercise partner.

Since he’s been with us, Stand Up has impressed with his gentle demeanor and intelligence. He learned our daily routine within 24 hours of arrival. He likes to hang out near people, and doesn’t mind if you are a man, woman, or child as long as you are willing to stroke his beautiful soft fur.

He is fully house-trained and has not had any accidents inside; he likes to go pee and poop at the same location during every walk. At night he follows me into the bedroom and takes his spot on a cushion on the floor, where he will sleep for a full 7-8 hours without a peep. In fact, he hardly makes any noise at all, except for some excited woofs when he sees dinner being prepared. He’s food motivated and with his smarts, would be easy to train to follow commands.

Though he’s chubby, he loves going out for long walks. We have been doing almost 2 miles every morning before breakfast and he is always out in front of me on the leash. He’s no speed demon but he’s not slow, either. His leash manners are very good, too. He also does an adorable little tiptoe dance when he sees me getting the leashes ready. He notices other dogs on our walks but doesn’t seem to react to them at all. Cats, however, are VERY interesting to him.

Once his workout is over, Stand Up likes to Sit Down. He likes to sit near my feet when I am working at my desk. Otherwise he likes to hang out in the kitchen where he can watch the hustle and bustle of family life going on around him. He sometimes grabs a stuffy toy to hold onto while he’s resting. If we are watching TV, Stand Up likes to sit with us and watch too. Stand Up loves car rides! He jumps right in the back of the car and sits on his cushion watching the world go by out the window.

Over all, Stand Up is a sweet soul who would fit in with many kids of families. He likes having another dog around, but I think he would be ok as a solo dog if his people were home more often than not. He would thrive in a family where he could chill at home and also join them for fun activities. I think once he slims down a little he’d even be a good companion on short or medium length hikes!
