Sarah

#1958
Jack Russell Terrier
Female
Small (6-20 lbs)
Status: Adopted

Sarah has had a rough year through no fault of her own. At 12 years old, she found herself at the pound when her beloved mom developed Alzheimer’s and went into in a nursing home. Then she was adopted and returned because a family member was allergic to dogs. So she went back into the pound where we found her. She was adopted by a nice gentleman who fell a few months later and broke his arm & hurt his knees. Though he loves her and is devoted to her, he can no longer give her the walks she needs. He feels that the best thing for Sarah is to give her to someone who can provide more activity for her.

Sarah’s a happy, sweet, friendly pup. She knows how to sit, lie down, stay, and shake hands. She doesn’t have the strong prey drive of a lot of Jack Russells, was non-reactive with the shelter cat, and she’s fine on walks when she passes wildlife. She’s definitely curious, but she doesn’t strain on the leash and try to chase them. She does alert her family to visitors, but it’s brief – not incessant barking (and she doesn’t bark at sounds in the night). Having been abandoned several times, she gets a little nervous when she’s left alone; but she’s nondestructive and getting more confident. She’d do best with someone who’s home a lot or who can take their dog to work. (She’d be a hit at work. Everyone responds to her sweet scruffiness.)

Her energy requirements are moderate. She’s very spry for her 12 years and we like to take her out for about a mile, but there are times when she just feels like doing her business, sniffing around, and going back to the house. Currently, with her owner’s injuries, she uses a MiniLoo on his patio when he can’t take her out. She has 12 steps up to her condo and she handles those just fine. There’s a bit of cloudiness in her eyes, but she certainly sees just fine – even on midnight walks. She’s never hesitated or tripped over a curb in the dark. She has a slight heart murmur, but the vet wasn’t worried and said he’s seen dogs with much worse murmurs live long, full lives. He just wanted me to keep her trim. She’s 19 pounds, and he thought that was perfect.

All Sarah needs now is to find a forever home with someone who will love her and give her the confidence that her moving days are over. All she needs is some attention from the right person who appreciates her and will give her her forever home.
