Ruby Rose, a spirited super-senior of a shih tzu, strutted into Muttville with a confident attitude and a clear preference for the finer things in life (maybe that’s how she got her name? You can tell she’d be a stunner with some ruby jewels). This little lady has a lovely sable coat and very expressive fuzzy ears that elevate even her most mundane expressions into a work of art. As you’d expect from such a classy broad, Ruby is a little selective as to what dogs she’ll allow in her company, and she likes to be approached by humans with gentle manners. Ruby Rose would like to be the queen of her own castle, and she’d love it if that castle could be with you! If you’re looking for a demure little princess to live with you, come meet Ruby Rose today!
Here’s some notes from her foster:
We have a quiet, mellow home with just my husband and me, my 45 lb dog, and our two senior cats. Our neighborhood is peaceful with minimal foot traffic or noise. Not many visitors came during her stay, which helped her settle in.
On her first day, she was understandably nervous. I gave her space and let her come to me on her terms. I spent the first two days with her in our spare room. By Day 3, she significantly warmed up and began exploring the rest of the condo. She adjusted beautifully once she felt safe.
She got along well with my dog. They coexisted peacefully. Walked side by side, sniffed together, and even napped near each other. There was no resource guarding — they ate meals near each other without issue. She also did great with my brothers dog— was respectful and calm. Now my neighbor’s senior dog came over who is very energetic and vocal and she reacted very defensively. We have found out that she does well with calm, non-invasive dogs who respect her space and don’t overwhelm her with energy.
Ruby Rose takes time to warm up to new people. She was sweet, affectionate, and cuddly with me. She followed me around the house and loved being near me. With my husband, she had mixed reactions — some days she liked him, other days she barked at him to stay away. She always accepted treats from him, and I noticed that going on walks together helped build trust
Slept in her crate in the spare room every night from 9 PM to 9 AM. Some days preferred to hang out alone in that room and people-watch from the window. Most days, she chose to be wherever I was. Ruby loves slow, sniffy outdoor walks (she barks with excitement when she sees the leash!) Sunbathing in warm spots, long peaceful naps.
She’s a very special dog who blossoms with patience and a calm, respectful environment.
