Rocky Balboa

#8031
Border Collie Mix
Male
Large (50-90 lbs)
Status: Adopted

Rocky Balboa gentle giant and is as sweet as can be! He’s been pretty great with all the dogs he’s met so far, both big and small, and he loves every person who’s willing to give him a belly rub or W-A-L-K. He’s definitely had some training in his past, and knows sit, stay, appears to be potty trained. He understands that when you grab a leash it means it’s time for a walk! He’s generally a pretty mellow guy indoors but LOVES getting outside for some sniff adventures. Overall, he’s a total softie and would be a great addition to any family!

Here’s what his foster has to say

Hi all!

Rocky is a star! We are still getting to know one another but everyone loves Rocky, especially our toddler. He is very patient and calm around her. He tolerated his first medicated bath very well. And we brushed a LOT of fur off the poor old guy – don’t think he’d had a brush or bath in a while. He LOVES food, which is great for training, but I did have to break the bad news to him that the vet put him on a little diet just so he could be his best, healthiest self. He takes his meds well too. He appears to have great housebreaking manners with no accidents, and he also slept through the night on a dog bed on the floor in the bedroom! He also knows sit and stay. Apart from food, his other great love is walks, and he seems comfortable with city sounds like traffic and construction and all the hustle and bustle. His cute little nubbin tail wags a lot when he knows it’s time to go outside.

Mr. Rocky Balboa is a total hunk. With a couple walks a day (1.5 miles) he’s been mellow, laying near me while I work or watch TV. He’s not an IN YOUR LAP dog, but wants to be in the same room and will follow you if you move. We started to see some play and I think once he settles in we won’t quite believe he is 10.

He’s shown some demand barking, especially if anxious, but that seems to be easing as he is more comfortable and learns we don’t give in to the barks.

We heard he pulls toward dogs when walking so initially we avoided them. He was a dream to walk, did not pull at all, and checked in. This morning I experienced some pulling toward a dog, so he will need a family that is patient and can commit to training during walk time. I have total confidence he will get it, especially if his family can find a super special treat that he loves. Perhaps a gentle leader would also be helpful, because it’s really his attention that needs re-focused

He’s not a food-hound, and although he’s on a diet he doesn’t beg much and left a bit of his breakfast for later. He spit out an apple so he does have preferences :)

He’s going to make a family very happy!
