In Memoriam:

Dear Muttville,

On August 5, 2018, my husband and I walked into Muttville not really knowing what we were looking for and weren’t sure we were ready to come home with a new dog after our previous senior passed months before. It turns out that it would be one of the best decisions of our lives. Bear (previously Pooka) happened to be in the Muttville kitchen napping in a hidden corner but woke up at the perfect time and walked around the counter to find us. It was fate. We would have missed him if he hadn’t woken up. He was in a big goofy cone of shame, a tad shy, but it was certainly love at first sight. There was no way we were leaving without him.

Bear was a little shy during his first few weeks but warmed up and showed us a little bit of his personality every day. He loved treats, naps, having his head scratched, and long walks. He garnered so much attention everywhere we went. I kid you not, we’ve had people driving down the street come to a sudden stop, roll down their windows and asked us about him. “He’s so unique looking.” “He’s so beautiful!” “He’s so handsome!” “What a sweet boy!” were some of the regular comments we’ve gotten about him. Indeed, he was our beautiful, sweet, and handsome hunk.

He made an impression on everyone that he met. He was calm, gentle, and kind. He never got himself into any trouble. He had a bunny brother that he loved.

On April 26th, Bear peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. Our hearts are broken but we are so thankful for the few months we got to spend with him. They were the happiest moments of our lives. He was our heart. Thank you, Muttville, for giving Bear and all other senior dogs a second chance. When we’re able to pick up the pieces of our heart off the floor, we know we’ll come find you again. Bear would want us to.

Pooka is a precious boy!

This adorable dog has been through a lot lately – he was found as a stray in Oakland, but it was discovered that he had previously served as an emotional support animal before his previous guardian became ill. Oakland reached out to Muttville to see if he could hang out with us while waiting for his forever home, and one look at his face and we said “Absolutely!” This sweet boy would love nothing more than to find a family where he can alternate between lounging around, playing fetch and going on walks. Sound like yours? Fill out an application today!

Pooka is estimated to be 9 years old and weighs 47 pounds.
