Here’s some notes from his foster:
We’ve been fostering him for a while and are really enjoying seeing him come out of his shell! Julius is a very sweet pup who is (re)learning what it means to have people around you can trust. He came in very uncertain, perhaps a bit because he was a stray and perhaps a bit because he is vision impaired and it is hard to figure out what’s going on when you’re subject to too many changes in a short period of time. He’s overall a rather healthy pup – he sleeps through the night and wakes up all excited in the morning – tail wagging and ready for his morning walk. He is a GREAT walker, loves to sniff and explore. He is also food motivated and takes treats very gently from your hands. Now that we’ve had him for a while and have introduced him to our backyard, he’s learning that that’s where he needs to go potty (outside of walks). I’ve not had any accidents since then – but as with any dog, it will require you to work with him to understand where/when is okay.
He gets along very well with other dogs – my senior dog at home and Julius hang out together all the time and share treats, bowls, and toys. My dog is super chill and I think that kind of a dog is a good fit for Julius. Because Julius is vision impaired, he gets startled easily so young puppies jumping on him is a no-no. He does not lash out – has no aggression tendencies – but gets startled when unexpected things happen around him, this being an example of that.
Having said that, he loves to play! He very much wants to please you, wants to interact with you and very much needs “his own” human. He bonds easily and bonds hard – he’ll be an absolutely amazing dog to adopt! So far, he has never barked but will show an interest/gets alert if my dog barks at the doorbell/mailman.
He loves to snuggle, but developing that level of trust takes time, so we’re currently working with him on getting there – giving him a mix of love/pets/play/snuggle time and giving him his space and independence so that his own personality has space to emerge.
He really is a sweet dog who would do well with an understanding human. He has a lot of love to give and is a healthy boy..
