Here’s one mystery that needs to be solved: why is Nancy Drew so adorable? This demure, polite, and friendly little girl loves everybody. She gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs. Her hobbies include walks, snuggles, and bringing bad guys to justice. There’s no mystery this girl can’t unravel with a magnifying glass and a few treats.

Here’s some notes from her foster:

Overall, Nancy Drew is very good and was easy to take care of. She’s a low-maintenance dog – she’s quiet and will let you know when she really needs something. She likes treats but it’s not the only thing on her mind, so she won’t bolt across the room at the first scent of cheese but will sit for a treat when you call her (still learning, but mostly there). Nancy is also pretty well-trained already. She picked up routines quickly like wiping her feet before entering the apartment. No accidents ever (although I do go out every 3-4 hours)!

She’s one of the easiest dogs I’ve ever walked. She rarely eats stuff on the streets, almost always pauses at crosswalks, rarely pulls, and can usually ignore other dogs. I feel very comfortable letting her off-leash at parks. For context, I rarely let any dogs off leash, but she never runs off too far and is good with other dogs and people. However, she prefers to play with dogs her size and can match her energy level. Again, she’s pretty low maintenance so our walks are usually 15-30 minutes long. She’ll let you know when she wants to go back home and never stalls going back. She does want to run sometimes. She can run at a jogging pace for 3 or 4 blocks at a time until she decides she might actually want to walk instead.

Her favorite things are chicken and trips to Dolores Park. She’s always smiling when she’s roaming in a park. She loves rolling in the grass and searching for that elusive chicken and rice bowl someone once left on a park bench that I wouldn’t let her eat. She checks that bench each time we pass by.

One really great thing about Nancy is that she’s very chill. I feel comfortable taking her with me grocery shopping and even to the gym. There’s a small area at my gym where people leave their dogs. The staff said she was quiet and very sweet while I was working out. I’ve never felt comfortable enough to take a dog with me to the gym but she’s the first. She’s not overly affectionate, but I did notice she will show it if you’re gone for more than a couple of minutes. She may ask for a pet here and there, she will probably follow you from room to room and she may ask to sleep in your room sometimes.

Each day that we are together I get to see more and more of her personality come out and she gets more brave and affectionate with me!
