Monte Carlo is a gorgeous black and tan terrier mix that has found himself at Muttville, and we couldn’t be happier to have him! Monte Carlo is a peppy senior boy, but, at 7 years young, you might mistake him for a much younger dog. If you like long walks on the beach, or through the woods, or even around your neighborhood, then Monte Carlo is the mutt for you! This intrepid gentleman is quite active for a senior, so if you’re looking for a pup to accompany you on your more energetic excursions, Monte Carlo might just be your soulpup. With all of the energy and enthusiasm of a puppy but the maturity and calmer manners of a senior, you get the best of both worlds with this wonderful doggo. Monte Carlo is a medium sized dog, so we wouldn’t suggest carrying him in a purse, but he’s happy to walk alongside you to keep you company. Monte Carlo is super dog friendly and has been making friends left and right across Muttville, so he’s bound to be popular at dog parks or if you have another dog at home. We don’t like to play favorites, but Monte Carlo might just be a perfect pup and we’re quite sure that he’ll be zooming off to his forever home, so if you are interested in meeting him, he hopes to see you soon!
Here’s some notes from his foster:
He is pretty much perfect!
He is SO sweet and loving. He hopped right up onto our couch and requested cuddles. He is good with our Muttville alum, Winnie. She keeps trying to play with him but I think he knows she’s a little too old for that (She’s a very wobbly 13 year old!) so he’ll just scoot around her or hop onto the couch when she is too insistent. He has been very respectful of her and her space! He did meet some off leash dogs on a walk this morning and he was all tail wags and polite sniffs. I think he wanted to go romp with them but was fine being kept on leash. He definitely had a playful side so it’s probably just about finding the right playmate.
He is the BEST walker! He sticks right by you without pulling at all, does a normal amount of sniffing, had no reaction to other doggies barking at him, and was polite to strangers who smiled at him when he walked by. We did a hilly 2 miles this morning and he definitely could’ve done more! But he also came home, curled up on a blanket, and fell asleep so he is a great mix of being active and knowing when to relax.
It turns out he likes to sleep UNDER the covers on the bed. We found this out last night when he requested to come up on our bed, then tunneled underneath our duvet and promptly fell asleep. I have no idea how he was breathing under there but he was quite content. He did crawl out at some point and slept at the foot of the bed for a while, but then went back under at some point this morning.
He is potty trained and has let us know when he needed to go out. So far, he has had no accidents and shows no signs of having one. He doesn’t seem like he wants to mark inside the house either. He’s a very good boy.
He understands commands like sit, down, and come. He is very smart and I bet could pick up other training commands very easily. He is not particularly food motivated, at least for the treats we have but we’ll see if we can find something he likes.
He LOVES toys! He likes to play tug or just prance around with a stuffie in his mouth. He likes to come show me his toys when I’m in another room, while wagging his tail and he seems very proud of himself.
He is an athletic, smart, and fun dog! He is also mellow and affectionate, and so so handsome to boot! He is vocal about telling you if he wants you to play or pay attention to him. He definitely has opinions at times and wants you to know them. I think he’d do great out and about in the world, going on hikes, to restaurants, or wherever you want to take him. He might need some additional support getting used to being home alone but I think he just needs to ease into it. He’s gone through a lot of changes recently so it’s understandable he is worried about being alone!
*He doesn’t particularly like the dark
*loves to chat especially when you dance for him
*prefers to be with people (we don’t have any other pets so not sure how he would be with other pets around)
*loves to cuddle at night – burrows under the covers (if you allow him to sleep with you)
*loves his stuffies
*great walker
He enjoys hanging out on human bed – i work from home and he’s been in our bed all day even though i have his dog bed next to me. he likes his comfort places
We LOVE him!! He is amazing!
