We are thrilled to announce that movie star Gromit, the highly intelligent companion of less-than-brilliant Wallace, appears to have an IRL little sister. She’s a youthful chi named Maxi with the unmistakable eyes, ears and nose of our Claymation hero, along with her own signature speckled ears, tiny feets and winsome shyness. She’s good with other dogs and people, and her confidence is quickly bolstered by the offer of treats, gentle pets and the whispering of sweet nothings. Maxi may be mini, but she is truly a giant among pups, and a dandy addition to a loving forever home.
Here’s some notes from her foster:
Maxi is doing great! She is especially doing well with our dog, a ~35 pound pointer. They snuggle together quite a bit! Maxi is friendly yet shy, but is still very adventurous and not scared. She spent the first 10 minutes in our home investigating all of the rooms. She is very treat-motivated, and comes running into the kitchen every time we’re making any noise.
In nearly a week, we haven’t heard one bark yet, so if a quiet dog is preferred, she’s your girl! Her energy level is fairly low. Most of her day, she wants to cozy up in a bed and take snoozes. Walks are nice, but she doesn’t want to go too far, and really enjoys sniffing more than walking :)
We’ve left her alone in the house with our other dog, and she does great. Mostly, they sleep! Maxi seems to have no issues with kids, and has been friendly yet shy with our two boys.
As far as potty training goes, Maxi will poop and pee outside when given the chance. She has had a couple of accidents in the house, but I think if she is let outside every few hours that won’t be an issue. We have a doggie door, but she’s still a bit cautious about it. She’s very curious about using it but so far hasn’t actually pushed the door open on its own.
Overall, Maxi is a great dog! She’s friendly, quiet, good with other dogs and people, and potty trained. I think she’ll continue to come out of her shell and become even friendlier and less shy with each day that goes by.
