Meet sweet Maple!

Maple is a very pretty senior gal. We believe that she is a rat terrier mix. Maple is a lot like your favorite grandma. She minds her own business most of the time, and is a champion napper. She does however love to go on walks too! Maple comes to us from the central valley, and most likely has had a tough go on life and probably bounced around a lot. Because of this, she can be nervous in new situations, and we just don’t blame her one bit. Maple is the perfect dog if you want some company and have a quiet and loving home where she can rest at your feet and always be pampered and comfortable. Maple is not the kind of gal who will be in your face all the time and appreciates personal space sometimes. This gal is super special and we just can’t wait to find her a comfy forever home. Maple will be most comfortable in a mature and quiet home with a patient new family that he sooooo deserves.

Here is what her fosters have to say about Maple:

Maple loves to go on walks, even though her sedentary at home lifestyle may make you think otherwise. She’s also really great at letting you know when she’s slowing down and ready to come home! Walking is her main form of exercise as at home she’s not big on playing with toys and prefers to lounge in bed (or on blankets as a close second). On the plus side, 90% of the time she prefers to be on the ground instead of on couches or elevated pieces of furniture.

She will happily rest on your feet for pets while you sit above though. Her other favorite activity is utilizing her "snuffle mat to forge for treats. She’s a well mannered lady and always looks for permission around the house, even waiting for us to follow when she decides to explore. She responds really well to "eh-eh-eh if, on the rare occasion, she tries to do something she shouldn’t.

We started to teach her some basic commands through clicker training. We think she is slightly hard of hearing but can hear the clicker and we have been using hand signals as well. With some food motivated incentive she can "sit and "come. She is house trained and after a week together has gotten really good about coming to get us and directing us to her food bowls, door, or "snuffle mat when she wants something.

She’s a bit anxious when facing new situations, but what makes her most anxious are other dogs. She is super curious about them, but if she’s already scared of a new situation then dogs approaching her will scare her more. She is timid about car travel, but will jump in if her bed or blanket is waiting for her. We have also taken turns riding with her in the back to pet and alleviate her car stresses. Overall she’s a super quiet, loving, and independent gal!
