Lewellen is a bright little star!

Lewellen brightens up any room she scampers into! Her joy is infectious, which makes her a real treat to be around.

She’s just a happy go lucky gal looking for her next adventure. She’s very alert and curious, and loves to look out the window and keep up with all the activity here at Muttville. As much as she loves running around being cute, she will also happily curl up in your lap for snuggles. Lewellen loves giving and receiving kisses too! If you’re looking for an upbeat buddy to accompany you through life, fill out an application for Lewellen today!

Lewellen is estimated to be 8 years young and weighs 7.5 lbs.

A note from Lewellen’s foster

“OVERALL – Lew is a very affectionate, healthy, friendly dog. She didn’t take any time at all to make herself at home in our condo. When she goes out, she loves to say hello to everyone and will climb their legs for kisses and snuggles. If there is a lap, she is in it (including surprising people sitting at outside cafes!). She is a fun, confident and loving dog.

ENERGY – She sleeps in our bed and quickly settled down, staying in the same spot all night. But she isn’t a sleepy dog! She is a focused and fast walker, clearly used to the leash. A 30 minute hilly, brisk walk 2 or 3 times a day is just fine with her! She is relaxed in crowds and near traffic but she can get nervous on busy sidewalks if people aren’t watching out for her (she is so tiny!). She likes squeaker toys. She won’t play fetch, but she’ll chase a toy and take it back to her bed.

SOCIALIZED – We don’t have pets or kids, so I can’t say much about that. When she first was alone in our apartment, she made a high pitch yip because she was lonely. But now that she is comfortable, she happily sleeps on the couch while we’re out. The only other time I’ve ever heard her yip was when someone came right up to our apartment window, which she found threatening (I did, too, frankly!). She is interested in, but not afraid of, other dogs on her walks. Some big dogs see her as prey, but she doesn’t seem spooked.

HOUSETRAINED – We have been proactive about taking her out, so we’re not sure if she signals when she needs to go. But she is well house trained! No accidents, despite being in a new place. She does leak just a little if she gets excited and hasn’t been out recently. She immediately picked her ’spot’ outside our apartment. She is fantastic about putting on her harness.

HEALTH – You’d never know she is recovering from kennel cough. She’ll be taking one pill 2x a day a bit longer, even though the cough is gone. She gulps down her pill with no problem if you put a cream cheese on it. She will be fixed on Friday 10/25. We were told she is exceptionally healthy and she seems like a very healthy dog. She has a great coat and LOVES to be brushed. LOVES it. Especially her neck.

FOOD – We were told by Muttville staff that Lewellen can be a picky eater, but we haven’t seen this behavior. Muttville gave us “Cesar” brand food, which Lew loves. She’ll dance on her hind legs and is learning the ""touch"" command with Zuke’s mini natural peanut butter treats. But she is more motivated by love and approval than food, which makes her a joy to train. She’ll be a good dog to teach tricks to."
