Leela, a gorgeous mash-up of Border Collie and Cattle Dog, has the intelligence, agility and patience of her working dog ancestors; but herding isn’t her thing. She’s more of a household saint. Playful and kind, attentive but independent, she’s a loyal friend to dogs, cats and humans, offering the latter healing hugs, neighborhood jaunts and active listening as needed. She’s sturdy and soft in equal measure, nicely speckled and sweet to the core. If you have TLC to give and a need for spiritual guidance and goofing around, Leela is your girl.
Here’s some notes from her foster:
Beautiful Things About Leela!
Leela is an affectionate and playful 11-year-old Border Collie mix with a gentle spirit and a love for the outdoors. One of her most endearing habits is her enthusiasm for fetch, she’ll reliably return the toy right to your feet, patiently waiting for the next throw.
Leela communicates her needs in subtle, thoughtful ways. When she needs to go outside, she’ll gently wander the house and let out a quiet whine to get your attention. She has a playful energy that lasts all day, often finding creative ways to entertain herself if toys aren’t readily available—though she never damages anything in the process.
Calm and quiet by nature, Leela may go unnoticed if she’s settled somewhere cozy, so it’s always a good idea to check in on her now and then. She is wonderfully well-mannered around both children and other dogs, and her gentle temperament shines through during playtime, she makes no distinctions when it comes to companionship.
Leela is not food aggressive and appears to be house trained. While she hasn’t been left alone for extended periods, she shows every sign of being a well-adjusted companion.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
*Leela is not particularly food motivated, so praise and play go a long way with her.
*She’s sensitive to certain beeping noises and may become startled.
*While she’s not reactive when her paws are touched, she prefers they be left alone.
*It may take her a little time to fully settle into a new environment. She tends to be quiet and reserved at first, which may come across as fearfulness.
*Car rides can make her slightly nervous, but she manages it calmly, just like any dog adjusting to a new space.
*Leela is a sweet and steady presence—playful, gentle, and full of quiet charm. With a bit of patience and understanding, she’ll be a loving and loyal companion.
