Koa!

Koa!

Rottweiler
Female
X-large (over 90 lbs)
Status: Available from another shelter

Koa is a sweet girl that loves pets and treats. She is very people friendly and has some exposure to little ones, although she did knock our nephew down a few times; she doesn’t understand her size.

She enjoys walks and is pretty good on a leash. We have come across other dogs on walks and some she ignores, others she wants to meet. She loves to sniff everything and poke about.

She understands some basic commands (sit, wait, come on/here, leave it, touch[somewhat], down[somewhat]).

She doesn’t play fetch or seem to understand play, but she does enjoy her treat puzzles, her Kong type toys and chewing on a rubber type ball.

She had puppies before she was found and has since been spayed.

The vet estimate her age to be 6. She allows her ears, feet, mouth to be touched and was patient with our nephew who was a bit grabby (we always supervised and made sure to correct his actions, but toddlers are swift).

One thing we discovered is that she DOES NOT enjoy having to be poked to give blood. She will allow vaccines but the vet said she wasn’t a fan of whatever they do to test for heart worm and she should be sedated for future visits. She wasn’t aggressive, but was very scared/uncomfortable.

She tolerates bath time and I make to sure always provide a yummy treat to keep it pleasant for her. She really enjoys being toweled off.

She howls at sirens and awoos when she’s happy/excited. She does not like fireworks or thunder; she barks and tries to find the noise.

She does well if kept inside or outside for a work day. When it was hot out, we never left her outside for an extended period of time if it got above 90 degrees.

She finds cats TOO interesting.

She is about 100 lbs so she has some weight to throw around (and lose). We have been working on dieting and having walks twice a day. She is a big napper but loves her walks.

She does have hip displaysia and arthritis in her hips. I have the medical notes from the shelter from when they had her and I can provide what we have from the vet.

Please let me know if you are able to help.

Thank you,

Cate
