Ever wonder what it’s like to have a nose that’s basically a built-in GPS for chicken treats? Meet Hot Dog, the 10-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who’s got that superpower and then some. Despite being a little vision impaired, this curious and playful fellow approaches life with the enthusiasm of a puppy and the wisdom of a seasoned explorer. Sweet and affectionate, Hot Dog enjoys leisurely neighborhood walks where his nose is always hard at work investigating every intriguing scent. If you’re ready for a quirky, loving companion who’s equal parts detective and cuddle expert, Hot Dog is here to sniff out your heart.

Here’s some notes from his foster:
Hot Dog is a dapper dude sporting a rich creamy coat, perky ears, and cute little feet with the plumpest of all toe beans. What he lacks in vision, he makes up with his excellent hearing and curious pink snoot. Since his glossy eyes can’t see well he doesn’t go on walks for distance; rather he likes to waddle around slowly and sniff all the sniffs! He also seems fairly happy to go on longer adventures in a dog stroller, a sling, or a backpack. While he is apprehensive meeting other dogs and humans on our walks he can easily be scooped up until the coast is clear. With his short little leggies and his vision impairment, he will need to be carried up and down stairs, which shouldn’t be hard since he’s so little.
Hot Dog has a phenomenal appetite; he will let out the cutest little grunts when I prep his meals, then devours his food quickly. Despite being senior, he has a good set of pearly whites that allow him to eat solid foods with a satisfying toothy cronch!
Hot Dog gets along fabulously with the quiet resident dog and his favorite place is snuggled next to me on the couch on the heating pad. He occasionally lets me know when he hears suspicious sounds (i.e. mail carrier, neighbors, etc). He rides in the car nicely side by side with my dog. He is housetrained, and particularly needs to go out for potty immediately upon waking and after breakfast. He does okay being left home alone for a few hours and is usually asleep when I check on him on the doggy cam. At night, he is a wonderful companion quietly sleeping next to me snuggled in a blanket.
Hot Dog is a loving, gentle, introvert who can startle easily; his perfect home where he will shine is a quiet, calm household that is willing to go at his pace. He is the absolute sweetest boy and I’m so lucky to have him for the time being.
