Horseshoes are said to be lucky, and we have a feeling that this sweet senior chi cutie might be the luckiest of them all! Horseshoe is hard to capture on camera because he’d prefer to be snuggled up to your side, which makes him the perfect potato to binge all of your favorite Netflix shows with. With the classic chihuahua coloring and slightly darker chocolate ears, Horseshoe may not stand out in a crowd, but his phenomenal personality will show you that he’s one in a million. If you’re looking for a sweet senior to dote on in his golden years, why don’t you consider making Horseshoe the luckiest pup in Muttville? We just know that he’ll bring good luck your way, too.
Here’s some notes from his foster:
Meet Horseshoe
Horseshoe is a tiny heart-melter – incredibly sweet, gentle, and so easy to fall for. He settled into my home almost immediately, happily sniffed around, and then curled up like he’d lived here forever. He has a calm, loving temperament and hasn’t growled once.
He is absolutely the sweetest lovebug, and his favorite thing is to be near (AKA on) his person. If you’re on the couch, he’s in your lap. If you’re working, he’ll prop himself up somewhere he can see you. He isn’t anxious, but he does want to know where you are at all times. He’ll follow you from room to room and is always curious when you get up and leave. He’ll do best with someone who doesn’t leave the home for many hours at a time and ideally works from home.
The only time he ever barks is when he’s left completely alone and worried you might not come back, but eventually he’ll settle down.
For a 10-year-old, he still has a good amount of energy, but his true happy place is snuggling. He’s not that interested in toys or fetch and is more of a couch companion than a playmate.
He’s incredibly friendly and trusting with other people. Within a minute, he’ll sniff them and then curl up on their lap.
He’s mostly potty trained and picked up the routine very fast. We had a couple accidents the first day, but now he reliably goes when taken outside every 3-4 hours. He knows to potty on walks, but if he isn’t taken out consistently, he won’t always hold it – he’ll do best with regular outdoor breaks or a yard.
He’s great on a leash and loves going on short walks (unless it’s raining in which case he’s absolutely horrified you took him outside).
He is extremely food motivated and will devour his meals.. which also means his begging game is strong. If you’re eating, he will paw at your feet and stare at you. If enough time passes, he’ll whine a bit. This is the main area I’d focus on training him.
He doesn’t have much recall yet (his name has changed a few times), but he’s well behaved overall and very eager to please. He hasn’t shown problems in new places or with new people, he’s been gentle and respectful with the dogs we’ve passed.
