Sweet boxer boy Honcho is big and beautiful but he’s not the boss of anybody. More of a guru, really. Polite, easygoing, fond of a Kong if you’ve got one, this lovely gentleman is a respectful friend to other dogs and people. He’s got energy for short walks and exploratory sniff quests, digs a meditative bask in the sun, and doesn’t mind the stairs. He’s a youthful guy with a deeply calm and empathetic vibe – a fella who will stay for the whole story of your latest indignation and happily sit still for a healing hug. Looking for love in all the wrong places? Try Muttville! Honcho awaits your visit.

Here’s some notes from his foster:

He is the sweetest boy around. He even has some silly quirks.

He loves other dogs & loves learning from them in a small setting. (He has learned from my senior dog with arthritis that he doesn’t need to sit for treats. and then remembered he knew what sit is from my friends’ dog who was visiting). Not thrilled by enclosed dog parks and tends to want to wait by the gate until everyone is done there. Occasionally is startled by mean small dogs.

He does like tug toys and balls but seems to not be used to playing. I’ve seen him have a hilarious time having fun with toys…like twice. So hopefully no disappointment if toys are bought but he seems to ignore them.

He is VERY strong. Is usually very very mellow, but will pull HARD to inspect cars. Does not lunge or chase. Just a sudden, oh excuse me that’s my Uber that’s stopped in the middle of the street and I should go check in before it leaves.

He is house-trained. I’m currently working night shift so we’ve made a compromise where he uses pee pads when he can’t get me up to go pee. He would absolutely love having access to a yard and especially the opportunity to roll around and lounge on grass.

He is super sensitive so he’ll remember things that frighten him or made him feel bad (physically or feelings) for a long time. He’s still really not a fan of the open-back stairs in the back of the building I think because of an unsupervised misstep. So he’ll use the stairs if shadow or I go with him.

Honcho is a super awesome people loving hunk and I’m hoping that his adopter will understand how ridiculously lucky they are.
