Herb, a lanky, fur-bearing vessel of snaggle-toothed goodness, has something to show you. The youthful Peke mix discovered it at Muttville and wants to try it out with you and the friend or stranger of your choice. You two sit on a couch, roughly one Herb apart. Herb, an unusually perky senior with hops, then jumps between you, stretches out and receives simultaneous scritches – forever, if possible. He likes other dogs, so they can participate. You will receive massive tongue-forward smiles, cuddles and heartfelt admiration for your trouble. Were you to offer a forever home, Herb will throw in endless love, goofy entertainment and active listening. Bargain of the century, if you ask us. And Herb.
Here’s some notes from his foster:
Herb was reserved/sad, but also curious when he arrived. Sniffing his way around alllll the rooms, he came back to sit at my feet while I typed. Within about 48 hours, he had opened up a bit, started wagging his curly tail and using his expressive ears. He looks much more relaxed and freely offers kisses.
He is an enthusiastic eater – definitely food motivated! Any food unwisely attended will disappear. I suspect some food insecurity in his past. Herb clearly belonged to someone. He understands how to live in a house, negotiates stairs fine (but makes it clear picking him up would be OK too). Totally housetrained, we have had zero accidents. Sleeps on our bed with us, settles immediately and sleeps through the night. Would be happy to sleep on your pillow with you, but accepts his fate on a blanket at the foot of the bed, too. Walking around our (fairly large) block in the morning and at night has served well. Happy to meet everyone!
He does not appear to have had toys. We got him a little stuffy and the world’s tiniest Kong. He was puzzled, even with peanut butter applied to the Kong. After a couple of days, he began carrying the stuffy around, but loses interest quickly.
He can walk on leash, but it isn’t his strong suit. That said, he is quite biddable and wants to be near you. If you get up for any reason, he is immediately behind you. After a couple of trips to the park and the store, Herb is utterly unbothered by other dogs, regardless of size. No data on cats or little kids, as we don’t have those. Hops immediately into the car, and makes himself comfy on the front seat. Likes looking out the window.
Herb is a sweet gentleman to live with, and will make someone a very happy dog parent.
