Hardy, a Schnauzer mix in every shade of the gray rainbow, is known among scruff connoisseurs for his superlative coat, eyebrow and ear artistry. Turns out it’s all natural, styled by nature to fit his sweet and gentle temperament. He’s challenged in the vision department but very good at making friends with dogs and people, relying on pep and wisdom to find his way in the wider world. His goals are far from lofty – warmth, comfort, and safety top the list. You will no doubt add cuddles and shared eyebrow appointments once he’s yours.

Here’s some notes from his foster:

Hardy is a sweet little guy with a fluffy grey coat that makes you want to pick him up and cuddle. In between marathon sleeping sessions, Hardy will follow his human around, leisurely pace in circles (senior zoomies?), and sniff his environment He does not seem to be interested in toys, but he does LOVE treat balls and chasing his tail!

Hardy has no problem being picked up and carried. I’ve had him on my lap in a crowded room, riding in a car, and carried in a bag —he is always calm and quiet. He is OK being touched on all parts of his body, including tummy and legs. He especially loves butt and head scratches. He does not like being touched near his eyes or nose.

When I first got Hardy he was a very slow walker and could barely go 20 feet. During our time together, his pace has gotten faster and he’s increased his walking distance to one block! Due to his poor eyesight and weak hind leg, stairs and curbs are a little difficult for him. I used a dog stroller to roll him outside to pee and for longer distances. For a visually impaired dog he is quite adept at navigating his environment. Due to his size he has no interest climbing onto couches or getting into things.

Hardy is potty trained! However, it is difficult to tell when he needs to be let out so keeping him on a schedule is helpful. We use belly bands at night and take him out as soon as he wakes up.

Hardy is calm with adults and accepts pets from everyone. Because I was fostering Hardy while he was sick, we did not interact with other dogs or children, but when he sensed they were nearby he would be alert and wag his tail. He makes cute little grunting sounds and only barked once.
