Sometimes the dog missing from your best life is a big fella with soulful eyes and the patience of a saint. We get it, and we’ve got him. Getty, who is rich in personality but has no art collection to speak of, is a very handsome chestnut pittie mix in white ballet flats. Well-mannered, amenable to everything and partial to hugs and scritches, he walks among the pint-sized citizenry of Muttville with good will and glad tidings. He very kindly stops for people offering love or those eager to get a closer look at his fabulous jowls – it’s all good as far as he’s concerned. He’s also a gentleman on walks, a regular indoor/outdoor purveyor of excellent vibes. If you seek a benevolent anchor for your hero’s journey, Getty is your guy.
Here’s some notes from his foster:
Getty is the sweetest gentleman and incredibly easy to care for. It’s also very hard not
to fall in love with him because he’s like a stuffed animal come to life and will let you
cuddle and squish him to your heart’s content. This is the dog you dream about: easy,
sweet, enjoys everyone he meets, loves his food, sleeps whenever possible, but also
enjoys a nice walk with you. He’s one of the most adaptable dogs I’ve ever been around.
He is the grandpa who always indulged you and made sure you got everything you
ever wanted, while asking very little in return. Getty really wants to bond with you and get cuddles and love. He’ll do amazing in most foster homes filled with love and hopefully a good couch – he loves a couch! Because he’s so stoic and gentle, it can seem like he doesn’t need cuddles and love. He really does and loves it. He loves a head or neck scratch and after a day or two will show you his belly for a long scratch session.
He is extremely adaptable and entered our house like he’d always lived there. He’s a
joy to walk as he will go anywhere you want, behave calmly the entire time, and enjoys
meeting new people and kids, but in a very gentle, sweet way. He’s great around seniors who might be unsteady on their feet. He is housetrained and was able to hold his pee for 4-5 hours during the day and overnight it’s about 9 hours. No accidents in our house from the start, even coming out of a shelter.
He enjoys his walks and can go for 45 minutes a couple times a day or several shorter
walks. He truly enjoys meeting people and other dogs. He will speed up for squirrels
and cats but the perk of an older gentleman is it’s very easy to hold him back or just
keep up with him by a quickening of your walking pace.
There are dogs who are sweet, and then there are dogs who feel like they’ve been
quietly thanking the universe their whole lives. This gentleman is the latter. He moves
through the world with humble appreciation: every walk a gift, every kind hand a
blessing, every soft treat a tiny miracle. He greets people with a calm, gracious joy, as if he’s genuinely delighted you exist. At home, he becomes the kind of companion people dream of: warm, steady, deeply loyal. He follows you from room to room not out of neediness, but with the soft devotion of someone who simply enjoys your presence.
Offer him a couch and he’ll settle beside you with a sigh that feels like trust itself. His gentle snores, his constant tail sway, his eagerness to try anything you offer…he radiates gratitude in every small gesture. He’s the sort of dog who changes the temperature of a home—calmer, kinder, fuller. Someone is going to look at him and know instantly: Oh. There you are. He’s not just adoptable. He’s someone’s soul dog.
