HERE’S WHAT ELMER’S FOSTER HAS TO SAY!
Elmer is a very sweet, loving senior pup and he is friendly and would do well with households that have other small/large dogs. He grew attached to my dog pretty quickly! We also have a cat that he seemed to be excited to ‘meet’ so I’m unsure if he would get along with other cats.
He LOVES squeaky toys and belly rubs!
He will be the perfect family dog because he loves to cozy up with everyone! He is a little sensitive about being picked up and/or moved once he settles in but we think that may be due to his recent surgeries so we’re hopeful that will stop once he’s feeling better.
Elmer LOVES people and makes friends easily – he warms up to strangers and loves getting head, chin, and belly scratches.
He is learning how to go on leashed walks. He spent most of his life indoors and outdoor walks are a new and exciting adventure for him. He gets excited at the sight of his leash/harness and knows he’s about to practice walking! He does well when kept closely at your side and gets so excited that he may sometimes get intertwined with your legs. He responds well to being trained to walk at my side without leading ahead of me.
He knows the commands "sit and "come – he (at times) will need additional prompting to go "outside or on a walk. Our dog helps guide him to the backyard.
He gets a little anxious on car rides, but quickly settles in if held on your lap or between your feet.
Elmer LOVES… LOVES fluffy, comfy beds! He is on a schedule of eating breakfast between 7-9am and dinner at 6:30pm – he loves kibble mixed with wet dog food or boiled chicken & rice
Taking medication is a breeze – simply wrap pills in some meat and he will consume it with ease.
He loves snacking throughout the day – he gravitates to softer, meatier snacks like jerky or chews and doesn’t prefer harder snacks like bully sticks or braided rinds.
He would love to sleep on a bed with you – but we have been training him to sleep In his own bed at the feet of ours. He has a tendency to get up frequently and reposition himself – he’s like goldilocks trying to find the most comfortable spot or bed :)
Elmer loves getting pampered and enjoys being brushed. He has shown some signs of restlessness when his “person” leaves the room but he does settle in after a bit if we leave him alone. He has grown attached to me and follows me everywhere.
