Meet Duke — A Distinguished Gentleman with a Young Dog Spirit
Duke is a 9-year-old sweetheart with the body, curiosity, and enthusiasm of a much younger dog. While he may technically be a senior, Duke hasn’t read that memo — he’s active, engaged, and happiest when he has a routine, structure, and a person to call his own.
Duke recently lost his beloved owner, and what he needs most now is stability, consistency, and a home where he can feel safe for the rest of his life. He is a gentle, loyal companion who bonds deeply with his people and truly thrives when he knows where he belongs.
At home, Duke is affectionate, calm, and well-mannered. He enjoys being outside, exploring, and spending time with his humans. He’s a big boy with a soft heart — strong in size but gentle in spirit. He’s also impressively smart… so smart, in fact, that he can open doors if given the opportunity!
Duke is currently doing best in an only-pet home. While he doesn’t show aggression toward other dogs, they can overstimulate him on walks, causing barking and excitement. Because of this, Duke would do best with an adopter experienced with large dogs who is comfortable continuing leash guidance and helping him stay focused outside.

Duke absolutely loves being outdoors. He currently has access to a backyard in his foster home and really enjoys being able to step outside, stretch his legs, and relax in the fresh air. A home with a yard would be incredibly beneficial for him — though it’s not a requirement — as long as he has regular opportunities to get outside and enjoy his surroundings.
The good news? Duke already has a strong foundation. He has been regularly vet-checked throughout his life and comes with solid veterinary records. He has also been evaluated by a professional trainer, who described him as a wonderful dog and has generously offered to provide continued support to his adopters to help ensure a smooth transition.
Duke isn’t looking for perfection — just a steady home, clear guidance, and someone willing to give him the love and structure he deserves. In return, he offers loyalty, companionship, and the quiet, comforting presence only a dog like Duke can bring.
