This handsome 12-pound Rat Terrier is making his rounds, carefully inspecting every new sight and smell with adorable curiosity. His standout ears seem to have a personality all their own, always perked up for the next exciting discovery. While he enjoys exploring his surroundings, he’s just as happy making new canine friends and greeting people with a friendly attitude. Whether he’s investigating the backyard or checking in for a cuddle break, Doctor Goodwin has excellent bedside manner and a heart full of kindness. Move over, Doogie Howser. Doctor Goodwin may have “doctor” in his name, but this handsome guy has the energy of someone who definitely hasn’t hit retirement age yet!
Doctor Goodwin is a silly, energetic, incredibly sweet guy who loves to PLAY. Toys? Yes. Fetch? Absolutely. Running laps around the backyard? His specialty. And when it comes to squirrel patrol, he takes his job very seriously. He loves chasing and barking at squirrels, and this boy is FAST!
But once his shift is over, Doctor Goodwin is all about his people. He loves humans and warms up to new friends easily. His favorite place to be is curled up in a lap, and at bedtime, he’s happy to burrow under the covers and sleep right next to you. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of whatever you’re doing and has a whole lot of love to give.
He’s also a smart little guy who is very motivated by treats, which makes training fun. He’s potty trained, good in the car, and has been wonderful with my small Chihuahuas. He’s surprisingly agile and can hop onto the couch or bed with ease, so don’t let his “senior” status fool you. There’s still plenty of pep in this doctor’s step!
Doctor Goodwin is working on feeling more comfortable when left alone, and his foster family is helping him build confidence and learn that his people always come back. He would do best with someone who can continue that positive, gradual approach and give him a little time and support as he settles into his new routine.
He would also do best in a home without young children. He’s a sensitive guy who appreciates having his personal space respected and likes to know what’s coming, especially when it comes to being handled. Older children who understand dog boundaries could be a better fit.
Doctor Goodwin is a sweet, silly, affectionate boy with a big heart and so much personality. He’s equal parts playful sidekick, professional cuddlebug, backyard squirrel patrol officer, and devoted companion.
