Deacon is a super sweet senior boy!

Deacon’s CQ (cute quotient) is off the charts – an adorable furry mouse of a mutt. And he has a sweet and friendly personality to match. Deacon is super mellow and great around other dogs. He loves all people, especially the ones who scratch his ears, rub his tummy and give him a lap to lie on. If you have room in your heart and your home for this kind and gentle soul, he’ll repay you with eternal devotion.

Deacon is estimated to be 13 years young and weighs 15 pounds.

HERE’S WHAT HIS FOSTER HAS TO SAY:

Deacon is a sweet, engaging, inquisitive little guy. He’s friendly, quiet, but not shy. He’s super well-behaved and attuned to people (especially if food is a possibility). He’s an adorable delight.

Deacon’s activity level is fairly low, though he gets little spurts of energy (which are adorable), but he likes to be outside in the fresh air. If you carry him to a nice spot in the park, he’ll be happy to sniff around and say hi to other dogs. He needs to be carried up and down the stairs but doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.

He’s perfectly friendly to other dogs, will sniff and say hi. But then goes off to sniff on his own. When approached by an excitable, large pit bull, he was totally calm. No drama dog :-)

Deacon showed some mild curiosity towards my elderly cat, but she gave a hiss and he, wisely, gave up. They just keep their distance from each other now. He barely notices her.

He loves to nap in a big cozy dog bed (way bigger than I would’ve thought, but I realize he can’t curl up so much with his joints). He seems to take most to my husband, which is great since strays are often afraid of men. He’s a bit wobbly on his feet, so I wouldn’t recommend a lot of hardwood floors. He slips and slides a bit at our place and we had to put down mats to give him something to grip on as he makes his way around.

He doesn’t chew or bark (he’s so quiet you can forget he’s there) but when he gets his little bursts of energy and takes a tiny run a few steps ahead, you can see the spritely dog he undoubtedly used to be. But what you’ll remember most about him are his heart-meltingly sweet puppy dog eyes. It’s impossible not to adore him.

STAFF PICK

Deacon is so special and genuine. I wish there were more people in the world like Deacon. He’s no drama, friendly and tolerant with everyone, listens more than he talks, and loves life. If I could adopt another dog, he’d be my boy in a heartbeat. He is so easy going, positively-minded, and curious. The person who adopts him is undoubtedly going obsess about how special and cute he is 24/7. This little looker is likely going to require an Instagram channel. I love him so much and hope he gets scooped up soon!
