Cowboy Caviar, a seasoned chi with a lot of soul, comes to Muttville on a hero’s journey. Sidelined by terrible adversity, he found his way to healing, and now fate has put him on the path to a forever home. Handsome and polite, with the gait of a rodeo retiree, Cowboy likes to relax and reflect. He’s fine with dogs of all sizes and likes to amble outside for sniffs and sunshine. (He’ll need a lift on the stairs.) But his idea of big fun is quietly celebrating the comfort, safety and affection of a family to call his own. A little bit of real estate on the couch, a fuzzy poof with a view, whatever you’ve got is going to be enough. This velvety philosopher is ready to thrive on TLC and a smooth jazz piano playlist.

Cowboy Caviar, or CC as we call him, slipped into our home with quiet gratitude. After years of neglect, he has shown such resilience and gentleness that it feels like an honor to be part of his new beginning. When he arrived at Muttville, he had endured so much. He had been hit by a car years ago, lived outside for a long time, and came in with painful dental disease that required the removal of 24 teeth. Thanks to the loving care of everyone here, he has come so far, and his soft spirit radiates warmth.
Even with his wobbly back legs, CC still loves life’s simple pleasures. His favorite outings are slow, short, sniffy strolls where he can take in the world at his own pace. At home, he is as easy as they come. He follows us around, curls up in cozy beds, and nestles with us on the couch or in our laps for gentle pets and naps.
Living with CC is peaceful and sweet. He sleeps soundly through the night, has not barked, and is fine when left on his own. He gets along beautifully with our other dogs and with our cat. He is a no drama kind of guy. He lets us know when he needs to go outside for bathroom breaks. He rides well in the car, in a bed.
CC is an old boy who asks for so little: a comfy place to rest, food that tempts his waning appetite, and a family to surround him with love. In return, he gives the quiet joy of a sweet boy who knows he is finally safe and cherished.
